SCP-3844

Special Containment Procedures: SCP-3844 is to be contained in a standard storage locker. SCP-3844 is not to be handled outside of experimentation. Permission must be approved by administrative personnel at Level 4 security clearance or higher. Only Class D personnel should directly handle the object. In the event that an instance of SCP-3844-1 manifests, staff are required to provide the entity with all requested materials until research personnel are able to clearly identify the consequences of not fulfilling the requests.

Description: SCP-3844 is a Native American war club that displays unusual properties when physical contact is made. At such a time, the subject will immediately feel its effects. Researchers have documented significantly enhanced strength, speed and agility in the subject. The artifact has a moderate psionic effect on the user, causing them to feel compelled to run and hunt in the wild. This can be resisted and doesn’t seem to override their baseline personality. The subject’s brain will release moderate levels of endorphins and high levels of dopamine, inducing a euphoric state. Testing has shown that subjects have a resistance to pain and generally enjoy the experience up until this point.

At approximately 30 minutes after contact, the subject will sense an unseen entity. After an hour, a humanoid entity will manifest. This entity has been designated as SCP-3844-1. A SCP-3844-1 instance appears as a slightly translucent incorporeal entity that manifests after prolonged contact with SCP-3844. It displays the appearance of a 45 year old man of Native american descent, specifically indigenous to the Mid-Atlantic Coastal area and Tidewater region. SCP-3844-1 is typically seen sitting in a squatting position while maintaining a grin that test subjects and research staff deem “disturbing and threatening”.

SCP-3844-1 has shown area-of-effect psionic abilities, including: inducing fear, paranoia and anxiety in those in close proximity to its manifestation. Severe meteorological phenomena is also one of its properties. The effects seem to magnify the longer the entity goes unsatisfied. SCP-3844-1 demands “payment” or compensation for using SCP-3844. Experimentation and interviewing the entity have revealed that providing it with freshly harvested foods, animal skins and or handmade weapons satisfies it, with nearly all negative effects dissipating almost immediately.

The entity claims to be the manifestation of Okeus. There are currently no Foundation methods of verifying this claim. Following experiment log 3844-EXP-6, the entity is considered highly dangerous and a significant threat to safety when manifested.

Addendum: Discovery

SCP-3844 is a Native American war club that’s consistent with the style of local tribes in the region it was acquired. It bears a snake head on the pommel with squiggling lines curved up the shaft. Research staff have determined that the object is approximately 500-years-old. Despite extensive testing, the anomalous properties of the object are mostly undetectable by current Foundation technology. However, anyone that touches or holds the object feel its effects almost immediately.

SCP-3844 was acquired in █████, Virginia Beach, Virginia on September 3rd, 2014. It was sealed in a deliberately hollowed out log of species taxodium distichum. Local tribal legends speak of an incident where a weapon cursed by a demon, caused the destruction of an entire village. The survivors were said to have hid the weapon away in hopes of protecting future communities.

SCP-3844 was originally found by a deer hunter ██████ ███████. Upon making physical contact, he reported feeling euphoric and highly energized

██████ ███████ stated that he felt an inclination to hunt with the object and not his rifle, that it felt “totally natural” and that he was almost compelled to do so. While hunting, he claimed to have unnaturally enhanced strength, agility and speed. ██████ ███████ shared news of SCP-3844 with his associates and word began to spread of this anomalous object.

Local media reported anomolous meteorological phenomena which lasted for an unusual period of time. The storm remained stationary for 6 hours.

After the Foundation became aware of the artifact and field agents arrived on location, they quickly found the person-of-interest. Agents managed to interview ██████ ███████ while he claimed to be tormented by a “ghost.” Agents describe the situation as tense, but had no visual confirmation of the entity in the area.

Field agents determined that the meteorological phenomena was centered around ██████ ███████. Due to the increasingly dangerous threat of the situation, field agents terminated the person-of-interest. Anomalous phenomenon ceased virtually immediately. SCP-3844 was recovered from the scene and safely stored for transport to Site-31.

The locals who were determined to have heard of the artifact were interviewed, and those that had any knowledge of the artifact were administered Class C amnestics.

SCP Involved: SCP-3844
Personnel involved: Dr. W.M. Juneberry, Researcher J.G. Thompson, Security Officer D.S. Mitchell, Security Officer B.A. Maxwell, D-43598
Date: September 29, 2014
Location: Site 31- Laboratory 3
Test #: 3844-EXP-6
Test Subject Description: D-43598 is a 23 year old male, Hispanic. Approximately 180.3 cm in height. Weighs 83.9 kg. Medium build, in general good health. Subject prone to aggression, multiple assaults and one attempted homicide on their criminal record.
Procedure: Expose test subject to anomalous artifact. Record any and all effects to subject. Have subject perform various tasks to determine what, if any anomalous properties are found and document them.
Exposure Time: 06:03:00
Results: Upon initial contact, D-43598 expressed feeling “juiced up” (energized) and “feeling kind of good” (mild euphoria). Subject requested being allowed to go outside to “run free and hunt”. Request was denied. Subject was asked to perform physical tasks to test SCP-3844’s properties. D-43598 showed remarkable and unnatural speed; top speed while sprinting was recorded at approximately 136.8 kph. Highly enhanced agility was noted and strength. Subject was able to lift a maximum of 204 kg weights for an extended period of time, approximately 22 minutes. Further testing may be required to verify this limit.
Subject repeatedly requests to be granted access outside during the testing process. Requests denied. Subject is visibly agitated by response. At approximately 30 minutes of contact, subject reports a feeling of being watched by an unseen entity. No anomalous readings detected in laboratory at the time of the report. At approximately 60 minutes after continual exposure to the object, subject reports that a voice is demanding “payment for using his gift.” Audio recorders detected no sound other than D-43598 at the time of the report. Possible hallucinogenic or psionic properties could be involved.
90 minutes after continuous contact with SCP-3874, an entity appears in the laboratory, several meters from the test subject. Entity now being designated as SCP-3844-1. Entity appears as a male of Native American descent, between the age of 40 to 50. Average height, medium build. Physically fit. Researchers determined, after analysis of its attire and tattoos, that it appeared consistent with Powhatan Tribes in the Tidewater region of Virginia. SCP-3844-1 forcefully demands “payment” from D-43598 who is now showing emotional distress. D-43598 reports feeling paranoia, fear and anxiety. When prompted by researchers to ask SCP-3844-1 what it desires, D-43598 repeats the question to the entity. The entity raised its arms and yells loudly, apparently dissatisfied and annoyed by the question. The entity then faded away in a smoke-like vapor. Test subject reports smelling tree bark, soil and wood fire smoke.
180 minutes of exposure, SCP-3844-1 manifests again. It appears to be emitting smoke off its form and is visibly outraged. Research staff prompt subject to ask its name. SCP-3844-1 replied, “You fools, you use my special gift and yet you know nothing about me?! I am OKEUS!” D-43598 apologizes profusely and begins begging staff to grant the entity's demands. Request denied. SCP-3844-1 threatens D-43598 with bodily harm and demands payment for several more minutes. Promptly dematerializes after showing extreme frustration and anger. Test subject is showing signs of high psychological distress.
Approximately 360 minutes after continued exposure, D-43598 screams, falls to the ground appearing to place himself into a submissive position. SCP-3844-1 manifests again with a measurable concussive force that rattles the laboratory. The entity releases a roaring-like sound and objects in the laboratory begin to be violently displaced. Wind currents are detected inside the laboratory, source appears to from the entity.
D-43598 is screaming and begging to give the entity its “payment” and while yelling, asks what it wants. SCP-3844-1 speaks in a bellowing and unnatural voice, clearly and over enunciates its words. “Give me my payment in skins, in fine crafted weapons or in your harvest!” Site 31 begins to experience moderate tremors, possible site-wide containment breach possible due to structural collapse. Site evacuated to essential personnel only. Research staff requests Site Director to approve the issuing of an offering to SCP-3844-1. Director approves action during offsite evacuation. The requested items are gathered fairly quickly from on-site food storage. SCP-3844-1 bows and nods as items are provided to it. The entity dematerializes along with the offered items.
Notes: Further testing suspended until a full assessment of safe testing procedures can be established by a containment specialist. Level-4 security clearance or higher from the Site Director or a member of the Overseer Council is required for access and testing of SCP-3844.
